If you would like to have the secondlife:// protocol handling under Linux here is what you have to do:
1) Install Firefox
2) Launch it and in the address bar type:
about:config
3) Right click anywhere on the window and choose
New->Boolean
4) Type:
network.protocol-handler.external.secondlife
and choose
true
5) Again right click and choose
New->String
and type
network.protocol-handler.app.secondlife
and then type
/your/path/to/secondlife — it has to point to the secondlife script not to the folder alone (ie. /home/yazzgoth/SecondLife/secondlife )
Enjoy ![]()

I did all the above, but got confused at the ‘/your/path/to/secondlife’ part.
I’m new to secondlife and don’t know how to find out what my path is?
Also.. I think I’m missing something as when I attempt to teleport it comes up with a window saying ‘firefox doesn’t know how to open this address, because the protocol (secondlife) isn’t associated with any program’
Any ideas or is this really obvious?
Hi Elise,
The path to secondlife is the absolute path to the script ’secondlife’ you’re using to start the SL client.
If you have a shortcut on your desktop try to find where does it points to. It’s most likely the folder where you’ve unpacked the client.
You’re getting from Firefox most likely because you don’t have it configured to point to the script.
